How to Ping…

Pinging an Internet IP address or domain confirms that your computer is connected to the Internet, can communicate with other systems, and can resolve Domain Name Services (DNS).
To ping an IP address:

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. In the run field, type command and press Enter. The command prompt (black windows) will now open.
  3. Type in ping www.tcitechs.com (replacing domain with the web site you want, for instance www.yahoo.com) and press Enter.
  4. You can also ping an IP address directly. Type ping 66.33.213.114 and press Enter.

If you are connected to the internet you should see something similar to this:
Pinging 66.33.213.114 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 66.33.213.114: bytes=32 time=220ms TTL=228

The important thing is that there are four lines that all begin with "Reply from". If you get any other message, such as "destination host unreachable", or "request timed out", then more network troubleshooting is needed
